Keep Goals Simple and SMART.
Specific: Well defined – clear to understand.
Measurable: Know if the goal is obtainable and know when it has been achieved
Agreed Upon: Agreement with all people involved. You have to believe that you can do it – if you have a spouse/partner/children, they need to give you the space and support to do this.
Realistic: Within the availability of resources, knowledge and time
Time Based: Enough time to achieve the goal but not so much time that you will cool off from achieving this goal.
To quote renowned American philanthropist Elbert Hubbard:
“Many people fail in life, not for lack of ability or brains or even courage, but simply because they have never organized their energies around a goal.”
While you are in the job-searching process, it’s important to think of goal setting in terms of activity goals and broad-based goals.
