Whataboutisms

Whataboutism is a rhetorical technique where someone responds to a criticism or argument by deflecting it, often by bringing up an unrelated or tangential issue to accuse the other side of similar or worse behavior. Instead of addressing the original point, the person says “what about” something else, usually to divert attention or to avoid engaging with the critique.
